Ignorance is Bliss

February 9, 2010 Posted by: admin

This is my story:  As a young kid I remember driving in the car with my older brother.  The type of music he listened to would turn my stomach into knots for days!  I never understood how someone got joy out of listening to such crude lyrics.  I can enjoy “good” rap if I have to, but this stuff would be considered bad no matter what.  One day as we drove home from basketball practice, a particularly disturbing song came on by an artist whose name I will not mention.  In my frustration, I turned to my brother and asked: “How can the parent’s of this guy feel to see their son sing about such bad stuff?”.  My brother, looking incredulous, answered, “You can’t be that ignorant.  His parents love what he does.  He’s making a ton of money, and they get to benefit from it!”  Since then I have thought a lot about my brother’s comment.  I’m a little less ignorant but still quite positive about the way things “should” be.  I don’t believe that we have to accept the way the world is.  We can change it by standing for good and not participating in things of low moral value.
